12月23日早，南门街全体师生在操场上举行第十七周升旗仪式。主持本次升旗仪式的班级是树人国际高一UT班。本次升旗仪式由林宇澄同学主持，季泽轩同学担任升旗手，沈明远、陈芃宇同学担任护旗手。尹萧媛同学作了题为《今日之中国》的国旗下讲话。

What China is today!  今日之中国

 树人国际UT班 尹萧媛

Morning Everyone!

As is well known, China is a big country with a long history. For five thousand years, the country has an inexhaustible story. Since the start of the corrupt and incompetent Qing government, China seemed to have been declining, followed by several invasions and  a long period of darkness. At that time, China was so weak that it had no discourse power at all  international conferences, nor did it have strong military or economic power against other states . It was also at that time that people realized that "backward countries are beaten and weak sates have no diplomacy." Since then, people have wanted to develop,and want to be strong. Now, she is quite different from the past.

During the summer vacation in August, I went to a foreign city-Dubai.Most people there are Indian or Pakistani. In the hotel where I stayed, it seems that every staff member can speak a few words in simple Chinese. I think it's because there are a lot of Chinese tourists. One day , my mother and I were enjoying the scenery in a sightseeing bus in the hotel. The driver suddenly asked us if we were Chinese. After getting our positive answer, the driver introduced himself and said he was Pakistani. He said: China and Pakistan are very good friends, we are 'Ba tie', when I heard the Chinese word 'Ba tie 'out of his mouth, I was a little surprised. Then, to my surprise, the Pakistani driver sang a song directly in Chinese praising the friendship between Pakistan and China. The song kept repeating the words "Pakistan and China are brothers". My mother and I were very intimate and took it up.

That night, my mother and I came to an Asian restaurant and looked at the menu full of English which was  a very headache to me and I had a single phobia in an instant. I had to turn on my mobile phone translation software and fight the menu. During this period, the waiter came several times to ask if I would order, and I had to tell her awkwardly that I needed some more time. Finally, while I was still focusing on translating the menu, the waiter asked if we were Chinese and told us that there was a Chinese menu. The moment I saw the Chinese menu, I almost wanted to cry. What  familiar Chinese characters,   and how can I  interpret  辣子鸡 into Spicy chicken? The influence of Chinese tourists was  not to be underestimated. In Dubai mall, the world's largest shopping mall, I found  a large plank in front of a restaurant ,which says "come to our restaurant, we have a Chinese menu."

Now, the Chinese have spread all over the world, bringing great wealth to tourism everywhere, benefiting local people, which,of course, I think, is a symbol that China's national strength is becoming stronger and stronger, and its economy , culture and military  are developing rapidly, as well as the  science and technology At present, China is still  the largest and strongest developing country in the world , but its status in the world is constantly improving, and its influence in international affairs is increasing, and it has become an important force on the international stage.

That is what China is today!
